What’s in a title?

I know, how boring – to bring up the weather again in a blog post. But can you believe it’s going to be 43°C (109.4°F) in Adelaide today? There really is no in-between for Adelaide what the weather is concerned, at least consistently or long enough that it becomes noticeable.

I suspect I’ll be editing Book 3 a lot this weekend and staying cool. But what an easy segue into an update on my latest work in progress!

Firstly, the book is nearly ready to go for its first edit.

Secondly, I’m yet to name it! Though you know what, I think it’s time.

I can pretend that I don’t know the reason it’s taken me this long to come up with a title, but I do know.

It’s not necessarily just choosing an impactful title to start with that is anxiety inducing, or making sure the play on words isn’t somehow connected to something seedy after performing a search online!

The real reason is that my first novel, Words for Anna, was called something completely different to start with. In fact, it still had the unpublished title until just before the book went to print when I realised, it just didn’t make sense. Although the subtitle of ‘A second chance at first love’ still remains today.

I remember testing its new title (and other contenders) with very obliging colleagues and friends at the time.

So Friends, old or new, I’ll try and avoid it this time and spare you the research session you didn’t actually sign up for.

Who knows, perhaps this one will stick?
